The 7.3 IPR valve — Injection Pressure Regulator sensor — works together with the high pressure oil pump to "create" oil pressure. Based on signals from the ICP to the PCM, your 7.3 Powerstroke HPOP provides oil volume to the 7.3 IPR which in turn physically "plunges" and produces the psi — pressure. A faulty ICP Sensor can cause all kinds of problems. Poor idle, stalling, surging, or not even allowing the engine to start at all.
