Its been an exciting and challenging year for us here at Main Street! We are incredibly thankful for all of the hard work our volunteers and board have done over the past 12 months to ensure the sustainability and vitality of St. Johns Main Street Coalition and of our downtown.
With your help, we have worked to improve the appearance of downtown St. Johns, by establishing Portland’s largest business district safety foot patrol, installing custom-designed and locally manufactured trash and recycling plans throughout the business district, and coordinating 2 Clean Sweep events that brought more than 250 University of Portland students and community volunteers together to plant new street trees, clean, and otherwise improve the street-level appearance of the business district. We’ve helped cart- and home-based businesses move into Main Street storefronts and developed coupon books, Night on the Town, and the holiday Gazette, to bring more customers to the great businesses that are already here. To further assist businesses, we received a grant from Venture Portland to provide business seminars in 2013 for owners in St. Johns. In order to support our organizational development, we recruited and placed a full-time year-long AmeriCorps VISTA member.

As a supporter for the St. Johns Main Street Coalition, you understand the importance of our Main Street district: providing jobs, attracting investment, and housing local businesses. But you know that it is also the crossroads of our community and the heart of our identity here in St. Johns.
